Mud treatment
Mud bath
Freshwater therapeutic mud is ten times richer in organic substances than sea mud, containing hydrogen sulphide as well. The procedure is performed as a general bath on the temperature of 41-43 °C. Freshwater therapeutic mud constitutes a procedure which treats inflammations, alleviates pain, is biostimulating (accelerating metabolism and cellular renewal) and helps issue excess fluids and poisons from the body. The mud bath provides a pleasantly relaxing feeling.
Therapeutic mud has the effect of a thermal, mechanical and chemical irritant on the body. It causes changes in the nervous and cardiovascular system, the skin, composition of blood and metabolic processes. The mud procedure causes blood pressure to rise, increases breathing also in the beginning of the procedure and improves blood circulation. In the beginning of the course of treatment, the chronic disease may experience slight aggravation, since metabolism becomes more active. The irritation of numerous skin receptors by warm mud increases the restraining processes in the brain cortex, which explains the drowsiness of the patient during the procedure and especially after the procedure.
The indications for mud treatment are rheumatic diseases, chronic arthritis and myositis, spine diseases, muscular atrophy, post-traumatic and post-surgical adhesions and scarring, chronic skin diseases (psoriasis, eczema), chronic gynaecological diseases and chronic internal diseases. The counterindications for mud treatment are feverish diseases, tumors, blood diseases, haemorrhages, grades II and III of cardiac insufficiency, certain kidney diseases, pregnancy and tuberculosis.
